NPLD prep work day
September 17, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
We are holding a prep day for NPLD this year Sept 24 for which volunteers are needed. One of the HTA projects is replacing the logs lining the Fraser to Granby trail in the front meadow of the YMCA-Snow Mtn Ranch.
1- First we have to remove the old rotten logs and try to salvage the rebar used. We have a tractor to scoop the old material and then will try to use a strap and mallet to remove the rebar.
2- meanwhile we have a trailer and will collect other log material offered by people in the nearby area. Logs requested are standing dead or recently felled, 7-10 in diameter, 8-12 foot in length.
3- logs harvested by the SMR staff should be stockpiled in the meadow. All wood needs to be peeled, cut to size, and drilled to accept 1/2 inch rebar.
4- rebar will be cut into approximately 3 ft sticks.
We have tractor, two chainsaws, peelers, rebar cutter/bender, trailer
We appreciate your help for a morning or afternoon - please call Diana Lynn Rau 970-887-0547 to confirm or volunteer.
We can sign off on community service hours for the county and schools. National Public Lands Day Sept 24 can also provide additional hours and volunteers for this and other projects are always needed. Call 970-887-4210 to sign up. Show up at YMCA Nordic Center 7am Saturday Sept 24.
Volunteers NEED WATER, GLOVES, HAT AND SUNSCREEN. LUNCH AND SNACKS PROVIDED on prep days. Please wear long pants and sleeves and sturdy shoes to handle logs.
