Nordic Ski Season has Begun
"Sometimes we have enough snow in October and sometimes, like this year, it is almost Thanksgiving until we get sufficient snow to pack." -Diana Lynn Rau, Sky-Hi News

Mother Nature delivered in Grand County this week with a hefty dose of snow just days before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Locals and visitors alike have been patiently awaiting the return of Winter and it is finally time to break out those Nordic Skis from the Summer storage unit. Many areas on the East side of the County reported between 4 and 10 inches of snow. That combined with the cold temperatures has allowed for snow compaction and grooming operations to begin. Headwaters Trails Alliance has started grooming in a variety of locations including The Fraser Valley Rec District Ballfields, the Fraser to Granby Trail, Givelo Trail, and sections of the Fraser River Trail. In addition, preliminary grooming operations have also commenced at Devil's Thumb Ranch and Snow Mountain Ranch in Tabernash and Granby. Although this is very exiting news, conditions remain extremely variable with a thin snowpack. Try not to bring equipment that you care about and save those expensive skis for later in the season!
