Winter is approaching the midway point and so far it has been a banner year. The active pattern started in mid-December and it just seems to continue snowing. To date, Winter Park has recorded almost 200 inches of snowfall on the season. If the storm train continues, the resort could end up doubling its total from last year. One Colorado resort has already surpassed its snowfall from last season. Steamboat is reporting an impressive 263 inches on the season, smashing its season total of 235 inches last year. As good as the Colorado snowfall numbers look, other places in the west have been reporting staggering season totals, most notably California. Mammoth Mountain in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range has received over 500 inches already this year. Considering the long-standing western drought over the past several years, this banner winter should go a long way in filling our rivers and reservoirs.
